Naomi Campbell was born in South London, England. At a young age she gained a taste of acting, and appeared in a film called Quest for Fire. Naomi was discovered at age 15. After only a few years as a model, Naomi became the first black model to appear on the covers of Time Magazine, as well as French and British Vogue. Her film debut came in 1991, when she appeared as a singer in Cool As Ice. She also appeared in Spike Lee's Girl 6, co-starring Madonna. In 1995 Naomi Campbell released her album Babywoman. The album gained much attention in Japan over her hit single, La, La, La Love Song, on the album. She has also appeared in numerous music videos, including Michael Jackson's video, In The Closet. Naomi Campbell opened the Fashion Cafe in New York, along with models Elle Macpherson and Claudia Schiffer. In November 2003 Naomi Campbell was being sued by clerical assistant Simone Craig. She accused Naomi of grabbing her and throwing her onto a sofa during a rage at the plush L'Hermitage Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. In 2004, Naomi won a legal battle, as England's highest court agreed that a popular tabloid newspaper had invaded her privacy by exposing her drug problem. Naomi ha admitted that she took her first drug when she was 24. She joined the Dalai Lama in fundraising efforts to build kindergartens for poor communities worldwide, through UNESCO. She has the letters F.B. tattooed on her arm. In May, 2005, someone stole jewelry and clothes worth nearly $50,000 from Naomi, while she celebrated her 35th birthday at the Cannes Film Festival. |
