Emily Procter dreamed of becoming an actress while growing up. She attended East Carolina University where she studied journalism and dance. She wanted to join the theater department, but it was full. While attending college, Emily Procter worked as a weekend weather girl at the CBS affiliate WNCT in Greenville. In 1991, Emily majored in journalism and after graduation she moved to Los Angeles. Her parents paid for 2 years' worth of acting lessons.
She started working as a film and TV extra and in 1992 she got her first speaking role in Tobey Maguire's comedy, Great Scott. After that Emily Procter appeared in commercials for Pepsi, Budweiser and Maxwell House. She also got guest starring roles on TV shows including Friends and Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. Emily also appeared in Jerry Maguire (1996) opposit Tom Cruise and in Body Shots (1999) and Forever Fabulous (2000). She got a starring role on CBS' CSI: Miami (2002). The show won the People's Choice Award for Favorite New Drama in 2003.
